Biltmore Hotel announces ‘regal’ room and golf course redesign
POSTED 11 Jul 2018 . BY Luke Cloherty
The redesign will be a fresh take on the hotel’s history of old-world glamour and regal elegance
The Biltmore Hotel, located at Coral Gables, near Miami, has announced that it has commissioned two architects to redesign all of its accommodations and corridors, as well as one more architect to oversee the restoration of its 18-hole golf course.

D’Shakil Designs and Studio 5 Design + Architecture will undertake the work to redesign the hotel, with a brief to create a “fresh take on the hotel’s history of old-world glamour and regal elegance with the addition of royal hues, luxurious materials and elegant furniture pieces that harmonise seamlessly with the newly refurbished main lobby”.

The rooms’ redesign will focus on reflecting South Florida’s natural landscape, inspired by former 1920s Coral Gables real estate developer George E. Merrick and his passion for the region’s natural beauty. The rooms will consist of “the rich greens of Coral Gables’ canopy roads” as well as “plums, silver sage, and accents of regal gold”.

“We are honoured to have partnered with the Biltmore Hotel to bring a new era to the guest rooms and suites of this elegant and truly historic property,” said Dee Malone, principal, D’Shakil Designs.

Meanwhile golf course architect Brian Silva will restore the golf course, which is one of only nine Donald Ross designed golf courses in the top-100 golf courses in the U.S. New Bermuda grass will be added onto the existing tees, fairways & greens, while new bunkers will be put in to enhance short-game practice. Separate range areas will also be added. Challenging signature holes and an overall course length extension to over 7,100 yards will make it "worthy of championship level play".

"Reacting to this movement, the more accomplished players can take the risky route to shorten the distance from tee to green; which is the ultimate litmus test for a good golf course," said Silva. "While such a course will maintain the playing interest of the accomplished player, it will also still be entirely manageable for the leisurely player to enjoy."

Both are scheduled to be completed in December-2018, however, the interior and golf course redesigns are part of a large wholesale project that has recently seen the hotel renovate its main lobby, add a 10,000 square feet gym and install a new retail space within its spa operated by skincare firm Babor.
