Anytime Fitness UK reports a strong start to the year

The UK’s largest franchised chain, Anytime Fitness UK, has said that gaining a stronger understanding of its members and investing in technology is driving growth.

Revenue for the first quarter was up 8.3 per cent, compared to the same period last year, and there has been a 4 per cent rise in average member yield.

With 185 clubs, the company has also reached a milestone moment of 200,000 members and one million visits per month in the first quarter.

Chair Andy Thompson says it has been the strongest start to the year for some time, with growth in key metrics from the consumer and franchising sides of the business.

“We’ve been working hard to get an even stronger understanding of our members and how we engage them, investing in our tech infrastructure and systems, as well as making sure we’ve got the right people in place to support the business moving forwards – these are all critical factors that have contributed to a stronger performance across the network,” he says.

There are plan to sell 25 new franchise licences in 2024. “Our sector isn’t without its challenges, but we’re receiving positive levels of interest in franchising and the projected growth makes for an exciting year ahead,” says Thompson.

Development efforts have been strengthened by investment in a data-driven approach to find the best locations for clubs. A new club design with a full refresh of the interior specification and layout – including a large functional training space – is being implemented in all the new clubs and gradually rolled out across the existing network.

Anytime Fitness has more than 5,000 clubs in 40 countries and the UK is the biggest European market for the global brand, with 50 per cent of Europe’s total franchise sales in Q1 attributed to the UK.

Self Esteem Brands is the parent company, which is merging with Orangetheory and has plans for 10,000 clubs worldwide. Fast Fitness Japan has just bought the master franchise for Germany and is planning further international expansion.
